Improving Quality of Life
Extreme Winter Recovery Operations
I am proud to say that the City’s Department of Public Works and all of Glen Cove’s first responders have done an outstanding job this winter season. It has been one of the toughest winters on record but Glen Cove DPW and all of our police, fire, and EMS crews were up for the challenge. Our Department of Public Works instituted a new organizational strategy aimed at reducing expenses and enhancing services. My office in conjunction with DPW remediated 34 winter related residential issues using a Mayor’s issue log which is tracked to ensure accountability. The city implemented a 24-hour live phone operator hotline to help mediate residents’ issues during this January’s winter super storm. All of the city’s staff worked together effectively to ensure residential safety during this long winter season.

Cove Animal Rescue to Manage Glen Cove Animal Shelter
Cove Animal Rescue is happy to announce that it will be helping the animals of the City of Glen Cove and will begin managing the animal shelter located at 40 Shore Road as soon as the Animal Lovers League (ALL) vacates the premises; anticipated on January 15, 2015.
Cove Animal Rescue is a not for profit organization that believes in a No-Kill, No-cage environment to help eliminate the fear and stresses that make an animal difficult to present for adoption, and difficult to transition into a home environment.
To improve conditions private benefactors who believe in this philosophy, have made it possible for Cove Animal Rescue to focus on expanding the shelter to nearly double its current size and to create a cage-free colony-like wing for the cats that will include windows for their natural curiosity as well as for the public to enjoy their precious antics.

Glen Cove Animal Shelter FAQ
Glen Cove Animal Shelter to be Revamped
The City of Glen Cove owns, maintains, and provides funding to the animal shelter facility on Shore Road currently being operated by the Glen Cove Animal Lovers League (A.L.L.), a 501c3 organization. In response to increasing concerns about the shelter animals’ safety raised by a growing number of community members, the City and representatives of A.L.L. have been in talks since last September regarding crucial changes needed to the current operations. Based on the total unwillingness of the A.L.L. to define policy regarding adoption, care of animals, and to provide adequate information requested by the City, Deputy Mayor Barbara Peebles made known the City’s intent to take the shelter in a new direction that ensures the welfare and care of the animals. The City is seeking to increase the potential for adoption while growing the shelter’s services and community outreach programs.
