June 16, 2015… Citing the meeting of key development milestones on Glen Cove’s waterfront project and the revitalization of the municipality’s downtown area, the City of Glen Cove is encouraging commuters and area residents to share their opinions about re-establishing a Glen Cove Ferry service for commuting and recreational travel.

June 11, 2015… To help parents keep their children busy, engaged and active this summer, the City of Glen Cove has put together a review of some of the City’s best summer programs and activities. “From summer camps, swimming and rowing lessons along with educational programs at the Glen Cove Library or Garvies Point Museum & Preserve, Glen Cove offers a variety of recreational choices for children of all ages,” said Mayor Reggie Spinello.

New Sanitation Schedule Prompts Residents to Leave Trash and Recyclables Curbside at 7:00 a.m.
June 1, 2015…Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello announced today that as of June 15, 2015 the operating hours of the Department of Public Works (DPW) – including the Sanitation Department – will begin at 7:00 a.m. “In an effort to achieve greater efficiencies in the scheduling of our Department of Public Works staff, we are moving forward with an earlier start to the work day of our team,” said Mayor Spinello.
With this new June 15 schedule change; Glen Cove residents should place their trash and recyclables at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on their normal pick-up days. For further information residents can call the Glen Cove Department of Public Works at (516) 676-4402 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Glen Cove Departments of Public Works and Sanitation Open New Receptacle For Grass Clipping and Yard Waste Collection
May 26, 2015 …The Glen Cove Department Public Works and Sanitation announced today the installation of a new collection area for Glen Cove residents to discard their grass clippings and yard waste. The collection area is located outside the gates of 100 Morris Avenue and residents are encouraged to discard their grass clippings and leaves in clear plastic bags and bundle their yard waste for proper disposal. No commercial dumping is allowed and the area will be monitored by 24/7 camera surveillance. The new receptacle is visually marked with a magnetic sign.
This new service complements the City’s Wednesday yard waste pick-up. Grass clippings will no longer be accepted at the Glen Cove Golf Course. For further information, please contact the Department of Public Works at (516) 676-4402.
City of Glen Cove Announces Memorial Day Weekend Schedule

Wednesday, May 13, 2015… The City of Glen Cove Memorial Day Parade Committee announced today the schedule for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend to honor our country’s veterans and remember those who fought to protect our freedoms. Glen Cove’s Memorial Day weekend activities include the decoration of the city’s war monuments, church memorial services, and a commemorative parade. The Memorial Day Parade Committee, whose members represent the VFW, James Donahue Post 347, American Legion Post 76, American Legion Young-Simmons Post 1765 and the Dan Daly Globe and Anchor Detachment, have selected Anthony J. Anzalone as their 2015 parade honoree.
Glen Cove Beaches to Open Memorial Day Weekend

May 15, 2015…Mayor Reggie Spinello encourages Glen Cove residents to start packing their beach bags and towels as the 2015 Glen Cove beach season officially opens on Saturday, May 23. Both Pryibil and Morgan Memorial Park beaches will be staffed with lifeguards on weekends only (plus Memorial Day) until June 20th. Then, on the first day of summer, June 21 Glen Cove’s beaches will be staffed seven days per week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The City of Glen Cove Announces Job Opening for Crossing Guard
May 13, 2015…The City of Glen Cove has posted a job vacancy for a Crossing Guard and welcomes potential job applicants. The Crossing Guard position calls for the exercise of vigilance in directing traffic for the protection of pedestrians. Work is performed independently and the pay rate is $45 per day.
Mayor Spinello Announces Community Town Hall Meetings for May and June
May 5, 2015… Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello today announced the scheduling of three community Town Hall meetings. The Mayor along with officials from City departments including Public Works, Parks & Recreation, Water, Police, Code Enforcement, Senior Center and others will be providing updates and informational materials, answering questions, addressing community concerns and listening to recommendations from City residents.
Residents are encouraged to attend a Town Hall meeting at a school location closest to their neighborhood. If residents are unable to attend their scheduled date, they are welcome to join the Mayor and his leadership team at another location. The Mayor’s office is accepting questions in advance to ensure all topics can be addressed. Mayor Reggie Spinello Supports Glen Cove Youth at Annual “LAXFEST”
May 1, 2015… The lacrosse community came together recently to celebrate "the fastest game on two feet" at the Annual Glen Cove LAXFEST. Teams from the Glen Cove Junior League through the Glen Cove High School Varsity teams were represented along with regional competitors. Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello joined in on the event’s festivities by conducting the coin toss for the Boys’ Varsity game and spending time with the teams’ players and coaches.
Glen Cove’s Beautification Commission Celebrates National Arbor Day with Tree Planting
April 24, 2015…Glen Cove Mayor Spinello, Councilman Famighletti, and Councilwoman Panzenbeck joined members of Glen Cove’s Parks & Recreation Department and Beautification Commission to plant a weeping cherry tree in Glen Cove’s Monument Park in celebration of the 45th anniversary of National Arbor Day. “Arbor Day reminds us of the importance of trees to our environment and the need to have strong roots within your community. The dedicated volunteers of our Beautification Commission work year-long to enhance the natural beauty of our city through plantings, managing our community garden and Adopt-a-Spot programs.” said Mayor Spinello.

Local Glen Cove 6 Year Old Raises Big Bucks for St. Baldrick’s
April 17, 2015… Every year during the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Glen Covers gather ceremoniously to watch as their fellow residents get a haircut; well actually a close shave. St. Baldrick’s Foundation raises money for child cancer research nationwide by hosting head shaving events. Those who choose to participate collect donations through sponsorships and at the end of the fundraising period, they shave their heads in solidarity with the millions of children who undergo cancer treatments and experience hair loss.

Glen Cove Celebrates Senior Recognition Day 2015
On Saturday, May 9, 2015 the City of Glen Cove will hold its 9th Annual Senior Recognition Day to celebrate all seniors in our community and honor our Centenarians (age 100 and older). All are invited to join our senior citizens, their families, and friends for this special celebration in downtown Village Square from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. (In case of rain, the event will be held at the Senior Center located at 130 Glen Street.) The day’s events are “Free to all” and will include delicious food tastings from local businesses, the wonderful music of the Les Stanco Band, and various vendors and information booths.
City of Glen Cove Hydrant Maintenance
In our continuing efforts to deliver the highest quality water possible to our residents and to provide optimal fire-fighting services, the Water Department is continuing our city-wide hydrant maintenance program. Each year, one third of the hydrants throughout the City are serviced, as are all hydrants situated on dead-end mains.
