Tree to be Centerpiece of the 100th Anniversary of Glen Cove’s Tree of Light Celebration

2015 11 24 2015 Christmas TreeGlen Cove, NY, November 24, 2015…Each year the City of Glen Cove launches a search to find the perfect Christmas Tree to anchor the City’s annual holiday festivities.  For 2015, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church offered to donate a majestic Blue Spruce tree to the City so that all residents can enjoy its beauty.  Glen Cove’s Department of Public Works (DPW) under the direction of Manny Grella and with assistance from Joe Douso of Woody’s Tree Service and National Grid, the group cut down the Blue Spruce tree and transported it to Glen Cove’s Village Square.  DPW team members have decorated the tree with colorful lights and Glen Cove residents are invited to the City’s tree lightening ceremony on Saturday, November 28th at 4:45 p.m. in the Village Square. “With the 100th Anniversary of Glen Cove’s Tree of Light, this is a very special year for Glen Cove’s Christmas Tree and we appreciated the support of St. Paul’s Church,” said Mayor Reggie Spinello. “I am also excited to introduce a new holiday tradition with the unveiling of Glen Cove’s Merry Tree Festival on School and Glen Streets.  Over 30 trees have been sponsored by area businesses and organizations and will be decorated with beautiful and creative ornaments for all to enjoy. “As part of the tree lighting festivities sponsored by the Glen Cove B.I.D., there will be a performance by the Glen Cove High School jazz band, free photographs with Santa sponsored by North Shore LIJ Glen Cove Hospital, ornament crafts and free hot cocoa donated by Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton.
