Glen Cove’s Summer of Fun for Kids of All Ages

June 11, 2015… To help parents keep their children busy, engaged and active this summer, the City of Glen Cove has put together a review of some of the City’s best summer programs and activities.  “From summer camps, swimming and rowing lessons along with educational programs at the Glen Cove Library or Garvies Point Museum & Preserve, Glen Cove offers a variety of recreational choices for children of all ages,” said Mayor Reggie Spinello.   Here’s a sampling of this summer’s offerings and please check the City of Glen Cove web site, www.glencove-li.us, for additional programs or program changes:

 

GLEN COVE PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT

 

A Day at the Beach:  

Morgan Park and Pryibil Beaches

Beaches will be staffed with lifeguards Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until June 21st. Starting June 21st beaches will be staffed 7 days per week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 

Swimming Lessons:

Swimming lessons will be offered for residents Monday through Saturdays at Pryibil Beach this summer season.

THE GLEN COVE PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Glen Cove Public Library offers a variety of summer activities from a lunch program with Island Harvest and a Summer Reading Club “Ever Hero Has A Story” to special events celebrating Alice in Wonderland’s 150th Anniversary and a Kindergarten Readiness Workshop in August.  There is also a summer family bus trip to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.  For more information about these programs, call the Glen Cove Public Library at (516) 676-2130.

THE GLEN COVE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club offers a unique Summer Program experience that will expose youth to a wide range of educational enrichment programs and activities all while having FUN! Each week, youth will participate in outdoor sports, weekly trips, arts & crafts, dance, technology, and special events.

GARVIES POINT MUSEUM & PRESERVE

 

This Nassau County Museum on Barry Drive in Glen Cove offers a series of summer workshop programs with hands-on activities for children ages 5 to 10 from July 7 through August 20.  The half-day workshops are held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  This summer’s themes include Nature, Geology and Native American. CLAYNATION

ClayNation, Glen Cove’s very own paint-your-own-pottery, mosaic, and glass fusion studio, offers a variety of kid and family friendly summer programs.  ClayNation offers a “Kids ‘n Canvas” program every Wednesday beginning June 17th from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.  This instructor led program, for ages 5 and up, will walk participants through a step-by-step canvas painting project.  Each week will feature a different project allowing interested children to attend all summer.  Also being offered this summer is “Popcorn & Projects”, a family friendly activity which includes popcorn, a movie, and a project.  Several dates will be available throughout the summer and additional details can be found on their website: http://www.claynationonline.com or by calling (516) 671-8788.

 

JJ GLEN COVE CINEMAS

 

JJ Glen Cove Cinemas offers a variety of cinematic experiences for those looking to get away from the heat of summer. From 3-D movie screenings to planned birthday parties, Glen Cove Cinemas has something to offer kids of any age.  Discounted rate programs will be offered throughout the summer season, making a day or night out at the movies a more affordable experience.
