City of Glen Cove Announces Memorial Day Weekend Schedule
Colonel (RET) Anthony J. Anzalone, Jr. To Be Honored
Wednesday, May 13, 2015… The City of Glen Cove Memorial Day Parade Committee announced today the schedule for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend to honor our country’s veterans and remember those who fought to protect our freedoms. Glen Cove’s Memorial Day weekend activities include the decoration of the city’s war monuments, church memorial services, and a commemorative parade. The Memorial Day Parade Committee, whose members represent the VFW, James Donahue Post 347, American Legion Post 76, American Legion Young-Simmons Post 1765 and the Dan Daly Globe and Anchor Detachment, have selected Anthony J. Anzalone as their 2015 parade honoree.
Mr. Anzalone, a lifelong Glen Cove resident, is a retired Army Colonel who spent over twenty-eight years serving our country in an array of capacities. During the course of his career he has been on several overseas deployments and has been the recipient of the Legion of Merit Award, three Meritorious Service Medals, eleven Army Commendation Medals, six Overseas Medals, and Airborne Parachutist Wings.

Decoration of the City’s War Monuments
- 1:00 p.m. - Monument at Forest Avenue and Ford Street
- 1:30 p.m. - Monument at the Church of St. Rocco
- 2:00 p.m. - Monument at Elm Avenue and Frost Pond Road
- 3:00 p.m. - Memorial Church Service honoring the nation’s war dead held at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church
Monday, May 25, 2015
- 11:00 a.m. - The City of Glen Cove Memorial Day ceremonies begin with the Veterans Monument Park Ceremony which is to be held at Monument Park (Ford St. and Forrest Ave.). The parade’s 2015 honoree, Anthony J. Anzalone, will be recognized following the ceremonies dedicated to the memory of the nation’s men and women in uniform who made the ultimate sacrifice. This year’s parade Grand Marshal is Anthony Congero.
- 11:30 a.m. - The Memorial Day Parade will assemble at 11:30 a.m. on the corner of Cottage Row and School Street and will step off at noon.
- 12:00 Noon – The Parade Begins at Cottage Row and Forest Avenue, then continue down School Street, Left onto Glen Street, right onto Pulaski Street, right onto the Arterial Highway, past the reviewing stand in front of Glen Cove Library, and ending at Charles Street.
