MAYOR SPINELLO ATTENDS 2015 SCOUTPALOOZA EVENT AT PRATT PARK
May 4, 2015… The scouting community came together at the annual Scoutpalooza gathering held on Saturday, May 2 at Glen Cove’s Pratt Park. The event features local Cub, Boy and Girl Scouts and offers a day filled with fun, education, excitement and friendship. Mayor Reggie Spinello met many talented young men and women from the Boy Scouts (Troop 6), Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts (Brownies Troop 103).
Greg Jones, a patrol leader and an Eagle Scout, led his troop and guests through a flag retirement ceremony while Brownies Leila Cullen and Aurora Seery showed off their creative side with a bead craft demonstration. And no Scoutpalooza event would be complete without a Pinewood Derby demonstration and a chance to make fire with the team from Garvies Point Museum and Preserve. Cub Scout Eamonn Sullivan discussed the skills needed to carve and design a Pinewood derby car and demonstrated the vehicle’s racing capabilities during a race challenge with the Mayor. “Each year I look forward to attending Scoutpalooza as I always learn something new – from packing a survival backpack to baking cookies in a card box oven and how the Girl Scouts pursued a Guinness World Record for cookie-dunking ,” said Mayor Spinello. “My gratitude goes out to the scouting community, their parents and Troop leaders for their efforts in helping our children build a strong foundation of good character.”
