Glen Cove Landmark Preservation Commission held its first meeting of 2015
The Glen Cove Landmark Preservation Commission held its first meeting of 2015, following the appointments by Mayor Spinello and the Glen Cove City Council on January 29, 2015. Since the GC-LPC has been inactive for the past several years, Mayor Spinello and his administration took a proactive approach to reconstitute the Commission. The Mayor invited the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to “jump start” the efforts of our dedicated and knowledgeable volunteer Commissioners. Mr. Julian Adams, Program Manager and Linda Mackey, Historic Preservation Specialist, traveled to Glen Cove from Albany to attend the initial meeting on February 26, 2015. They toured Glen Cove and shared their enthusiasm about the role of the Landmark Preservation Commission. They also provided the members with the most up-to-date opportunities and offered support and direction on various programs that the City is entitled to participate in as a Certified Local Government Commission. The Glen Cove Landmark Preservation Commission will be holding a public meeting on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 6:00 P.M. in Glen Cove City Hall (2nd floor conference room) to inform the public of the proposed removal by Nassau County of two hazardous structures in the Welwyn Preserve (Log Cabin and Laundry Building) that are structurally unsound and pose a public safety concern to those that may enter the structures. Mayor Spinello thanked the members for their volunteerism and commitment to the Glen Cove Landmark Preservation Commission, which he deems an important aspect of our Gold Coast history.
