88th Annual Daily News Golden Gloves Competition at Glen Cove High School

2015-03-19 Golden Glove CompetitionThe Glen Cove Boxing Club proudly sponsored the 88th Annual Daily News Golden Gloves Competition at Glen Cove High School on Thursday February 26, 2015.  The gymnasium was packed as anxious onlookers rooted on their favorite competitors.  Viviana Melgar and Emely Colon of the Glen Cove Boxing Club competed in the fights.  Erika Fonseca, a senior at Glen Cove High School, was awarded the Youth Scholarship award for her involvement in the club.  Other honorees included “Woman of the Year”, awarded to Wendy Sincuir, and Barbara Pena who was recognized for her many years of support to the Boxing Club.  Mayor Spinello was on hand along with Glen Cove High School Assistant Principal Allen Hudson in support of the event.  “It’s an honor to host the 88th Annual Golden Gloves right here in Glen Cove.  The Glen Cove Boxing Club really does a great job of keeping youth in the City engaged in positive afterschool activities.  I’m proud of the Club; this is a great event,” Spinello said.
