It was perfect soccer weather and the pitch at City Stadium was groomed to perfection last Saturday which made for a great season opener of the Glen Cove Junior Soccer program. Mayor Reginald Spinello, joined the Glen Cove Junior Soccer Board members; Marco “Mr. Glen Cove Soccer” Malusa; with Deputy Mayor Barbara Peebles, Glen Cove Parks and Recreation Director Darcy Belyea; members of the City Council, and local elected officials for the opening ceremonies. Junior Soccer has more than 600 children registered and over 90 volunteers to once again make it one of the city's premier programs. Mayor Spinello presented a citation to retiring Jr. Soccer volunteer Eddie Jalbert thanking him for 24 years of service to the program. Following the ceremonies, there was a traditional “shot on goal” with the Mayor tending the net. By the way, the shot was indeed a gooaall!
