On Sunday, June 22, 2014 Congressman John Lewis was a special guest at the First Baptist Church in Glen Cove. The Congressman, who is now the representative of Georgia’s 5th Congressional district, is also known as one of the “The Big Six.”

The Big Six refers to prominent leaders from six of the civil rights organizations active during the height of the African-American Civil Rights Movement. They were instrumental in organizing the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963. Members of the Big Six include Martin Luther King Jr., James Farmer, A. Philip Randolph, Roy Wilkins, Whitney Young, and, of course, Congressman John Lewis, one of the most prominent members of the Civil Rights Movement who constantly faced danger and discrimination to help bring equality to the African-American community.
