Now that warm weather is finally here and there will be an increase in activity from recreational boaters and anglers, Mayor Reginald Spinello would like to emphasize the importance of wearing life jackets while boating. It is mandatory that any child under the age of 13 wear a life jacket. Each person aboard a boat should have and wear a life jacket.
Mayor Spinello said, “Along with the use of life jackets, everyone should know that operating a board under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal. Every boat operator should also be aware of the maximum person capacity on a boat and should check with the National Weather Service for the latest marine forecasts prior to going out. Communication devices are one of the most important items that are a must on a boat in case of emergency; it can be a cell phone or VHF radio, or personal locator beacon. Let’s be safe and enjoy being out on the water.”
