Last week, Mayor Reginald Spinello and the City Council presented June Petrucci with a citation applauding her for 45 years as a crossing guard at our school posts. Mayor Spinello said, “Bring up the subject of school crossing guards in the City of Glen Cove, and hundreds of parents will say of June Petrucci, ‘Ours is awesome!’ For 45 years, June Petrucci has covered her post braving the rain, snow and many times a grumpy or distracted driver to ensure that children crossed the street safely to and from school. On behalf of the City of Glen Cove, please accept my sincere thanks for keeping our children safe.”

June started as a crossing guard in January, 1969. Her first post was at Finley Middle School for 30 years followed by a post at Connolly School for 15 years. In January, 1975, June became the first woman member of the Glen Cove Special Police and stayed with them for 23 years. Her dedication and work ethic is exemplary.

Born and raised in Glen Cove, June’s heart is in the City she loves. She and her late husband, Gus, had two children; a son, Robert and a daughter, Monica. June has three granddaughters.
