Members of the US Marine Corps came to visit Mayor Reginald Spinello in Glen Cove City Hall last week to finalize a series of events that will be held in our city as a tribute to Glen Cove’s own Marine hero, Sgt. Major Dan Daly. A two-time Medal of Honor recipient during the early 1900s, Sgt. Major Daly is one of the US Marine Corps most admired heroes.

The Marines are coming to Glen Cove on June 21, at 9 a.m. for a re-dedication ceremony of the Sgt. Major Dan Daly commemoration in our Monument Park. Following the ceremony, there will be a parade down Dosoris Lane led by the 30-member Quantico Marine Corps Band, and 300 Marines in full dress blues. The parade ends at the Glen Cove High School Maiden field where everyone can watch the inaugural Dan Daly Cup Lacrosse Game. The game, a partnership with the Glen Cove School District, the Nassau County Coaches Association, and the New York Lizards, will feature the top lacrosse players who are juniors in high school, in both Nassau and Suffolk County. The winning team will be presented with the first-ever Dan Daly Cup.
