Mayor Reginald Spinello is pictured with Elizabeth Garcia, this year’s Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year. Elizabeth is a highly motivated volunteer, a seasonal staff member for the Summer Youth Employment Program and currently, she is a per-diem staff member. She volunteers her time to help children with their homework during a program called “Power Hour.” Elizabeth is involved in community outreach organizations and is known as an outstanding student, excelling in academics at Glen Cove High School. She participates in extra-curricular activities which include Kick Line and Key Club. After graduating high school, Elizabeth plans to attend college with the goal to open a clinic for expectant mothers and infants. Mayor Spinello congratulated Elizabeth during last week’s City Council meeting and wished her well when she travels to Albany on May 19, to compete in the Boys & Girls Club of America’s State Youth of the Year. The State title recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club.
