April 22, 2015… A crowd of over 600 including children, family, friends and local dignitaries joined Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello and Parks & Recreation Director Darcy Belyea as the inaugural season of Gold Coast Little League kicked-off on Saturday, April 18th at John Maccarone Memorial (City) Stadium.
Mayor Reggie Spinello threw out the first pitch to softball player Anna Basil on a pitch perfect spring day. “It takes a strong team to create a dynamic sports program,” said Mayor Spinello. “I want to thank the players and their parents, our coaches, the team and program sponsors, the Glen Cove Recreation Commission and the Parks & Recreation staff for creating a dynamic environment for great play and good sportsmanship.” The City of Glen Cove would also like to extend its’ gratitude to Frank Trotta of North Shore Golf Car who generously donated a new golf cart featuring the league’s logo to the program.
The Mayor also paid tribute to the late Rob Kormoski who not only ran Glen Cove’s baseball and softball programs but also Glen Cove Jr. Football and Cheerleading for decades. With Rob’s son TJ Kormoski at his side, the Mayor said, “Rob worked tirelessly for all the right reasons – for the children. He wanted them to have fun while learning teamwork and sportsmanship with their friends. It is the goal of the Gold Coast Little League that the children play and have fun in Rob’s honor.”
Gold Coast Little League is a baseball and softball program for boys and girls in Glen Cove and surrounding communities currently in Kindergarten through Grade 9, operating under the direction of the City of Glen Cove Parks and Recreation Department. The Gold Coast Little League schedule provides an opportunity for all girls divisions to participate in a cooperative league that includes teams from Bayville, Locust Valley, Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club, Oyster Bay and new for 2015, teams from Sea Cliff as well.
