Mayor Spinello Welcomes Junior Wheelchair Basketball Games

2014-11-03 wheelchair basketball with MayorThe Wheelchair Sports Federation brought the Junior Wheelchair Basketball Games to Glen Cove on November 1, 2014. The Glen Cove High School gym was filled with excitement as Mayor Reginald Spinello welcomed the New York Fury and the Jr. Nets teams to our City. In addition to playing a basketball game the children, ages 7-12, also participated in the FIT Dribble Dish & Swish basketball clinic. The players are from the Tri-State area and are competing on many levels including dribble, pass, and getting the ball in the net! Having completed this round in Glen Cove, the winners continue to the regional competition with the final championship game played during the NBA All-Star game next year. Mayor Spinello thanked Michael Zangari, a member of the Glen Cove Recreation Commission (and a tireless, dedicated fan of ensuring that basketball play is available to all children) for coordinating this event. He also expressed his appreciation to the Glen Cove School District for providing the gym and to John Hamre of the Wheelchair Sports Federation.
