Mayor Reginald A. Spinello joined parents, teachers, principals, and representatives of community organizations to observe the hard work and talent on exhibit during the Glen Cove Youth Bureau’s After 3 Program (GCA3) Showcase.
During this cycle of the program, the GCA3 youth studied and researched the different amusement parks, state parks, as well as state monuments that are located all around the United States. The youth explored the history, geography, environment, and culture of these areas as well. While viewing the different projects, parents were able to see various projects that the students worked very hard on. Some projects ranged from display boards of tourist information, advertisements of the different places researched as well as their very own amusement parks. The Glen Cove After 3 Youth also shared their love of cooking at each showcase. Vegetable spinach dip, bananas in a blanket, as well as berry tartlets were made by the cooking class participants, for everyone to enjoy. The Spanish Language Learning Club performed a bilingual song about the months of the year while the GCA3 Music Club shared their talents of lyric writing and melody creating with their families.
The stars of this year’s showcases were the Deasy and Gribbin students who stole the show. Dressed in their best Marvel super hero and Disney costumes, the students displayed their work and truly put their best efforts forward. The students created papier-mâché Mickey Mouse hats, clay Minnie Mouse magnets, many pieces of art work, as well as shared many Disney fun facts.
The program is entering the second cycle and all students will have a chance to explore the most influential individuals who have impacted America, from explorers and presidents to famous chefs and entertainers. The GCA3 youth will be researching and creating projects based on this theme throughout the second cycle. Come explore with us!
